A letter from Tyler's mom
Can faith be returned to those who need it? I didn’t think it ever
could after the loss of my son, Tyler, until I was proven wrong one day last year.
Tyler Anthony Frey was born on October 30, 1996, and although his mortal
stay on earth lasted only sixty-eight days, the impact he had was beyond measure.
Tyler’s time with us needed to be commemorated in a way that our whole family
could participate. To do so, we decided that every year on his birthday,
we would release sixty-eight helium balloons, each inscribed with a personal
message from us, to Tyler’s new address.
It was his last birthday that we received a message back. One week after
Tyler’s birthday, we found one of the broken balloons, with my son Cody’s eight
year old handwriting carefully written on it, lying solely by our house. Now upon
reading this, you might think, "Oh, it must have been hung up on a tree or some
other form of impediment.", but what I failed to mention is that we released
the balloons at the cemetery, ten miles away!
The rush of emotions that followed the discovery were immense. Tyler found
a way to let us know he is all right and, at the same time, sent a message
of faith to help heal our hearts.
Sincerely,
Tyler’s Mom
